Debit cards are very much sensitive to withdrawals. Sometimes they require attention more than credit cards or checking accounts even. Unlike credit cards and checking accounts, the transactions through debit card are reflected into your fund almost immediately. So you need to be very much cautious while using it.

A few things that you should maintain-
  • Always keep track of the transactions made by you, make it a habit. Maintain your own book, save all the receipts safely and compare your account balance sheet with these receipts very often.

  • Whenever you find an error in your account, contact your bank with all relevant documents.

  • Inform your bank immediately if your debit card is stolen. The loss could be restricted at $50 if you notify within two days of the incident. You might have to pay 10 times more if you delay to inform them. Your bank can charge all the amounts stolen by the thieves in case you fail to inform the loss within 60 days time period.
So keep your debit card safely and keep a close eye on it and I believe all of us know that we should not disclose the PIN publicly and not through unsecured medium. Remember little awareness can save lot of harassments :)
