This question is on behalf of my dad. This past July my grandfather past away in the Phillippines and my parents had to spend savings to make the trip out for the funeral. The trip put them in a financial bind as now they are very behind on bills (utility and credit) and their credit went down fast. For the past 4-5 months they have been trying to catch up but it seems as though its just getting deeper and deeper. My dad has an full-time job in a management position for the United States Post Office and my mom works in retail however it just doesn't seem to be helping them out. They've tried to apply for loans and even equity loans on their house but have been denied. They've even had a car repo'd. I just purchased a new car and took out a loan for several thousand a month ago so I am unable to get them the money they need. They are in need of about $5000+ to help catch up. I've witnessed realtors coming to the house advising them to sell their new home and move into a smaller home older home. I personally don't want them to do that because they've always wanted a new home and finally got one and now they are in a financial bind. I'm wanted to post this to see what advice people can give or perhaps any resources they can go to for some help. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Baldie

Welcome to the forums.

I will also not be willing to sell the house especially for the purpose of paying my past debt. Your parents have got this house with so much desire and do not let it go away for this cause.

Enroll your parents in a debt consolidation program as it will be preferably the best choice for your parents right now. All the dues will be combined into one monthly payment at a lower rate of interest.

Slowly, the debt amount will start shrinking and your parents will be in the position to achieve a debt free life within a reasonable period of time.

Take a free counseling and probably you will get more options about the repayment procedure.
