Hello everyone, I'm a young guy with a heap of medical bills (around $10,000 uninsured) with student loan payments as well. I've consolidated my credit card debt to a payment of 100/mo which works just fine. The issue I'm having is with the medical. I was making about 18,000 a year when I got these bills, and not very wisely had put them off. Collectors are now coming for that money, and I'm not sure what my best option would be. I'm currently paying about 300/350 a month and just got the major bill in of around $6,500. Assuming that they usually like 10% for a payment, 650/month will definitly take quite a bite out of my budget. I don't think it's bad enough for bankruptcy, but these monthly payments for debt of over $1000 will be difficult to make. I just started a new job making quite a bit more than I used to, and I assume this would be enough to make those payments. Only problem is, I'm behind, and they need the money now, not when I get paid in 4 weeks. Anyone with some good ideas? (I'll even take bad ones).

Hi

Welcome to the forums. I have realized that as long as one is willing to pay his debt, the creditors and the collection agencies will co-operate with him. But there are some companies who just want to work under the fair laws and that make the situation tough.

Express your intention that you are willing to pay the said debt and that you have good financial standing also. It is just a matter of few good words that will make your negotiation process smooth with the collectors.

I am sure that you will be able to work nicely with your collectors and settle this debt completely. By the way, do you have any paper proof from the collection agency that produces the complete details of your accounts? You will be able to get complete information about your debt giving the proper calculation of the interests and also, that your debt has been legally passed on to the said collection agency for recovering it from you.
