To my friends who I’ve not met yet

Your poor memory was enough to ruin my credit; it's me who held the wheel at the right time. I must say that I found some people who helped me a lot through out my struggle. And I should not forget about those friends who I haven't met yet. Yes, I'm speaking about my forum friends, thank you guys. I adore the input that you gave me. I often get surprised to see that what I'm going to ask is already there in the forums. What a great databank you have. BTW, are you thought readers?
I had to start my life from below the nothing. I had some student loans that I've been paying off as promised, that helped me to gain a high score. Now credit card companies started to run behind me and provoked me to get one. And I think using credit card is an art, what I didn't know at that time. I used it foolishly. I was not aware of credit score calculation, that I know now¦thanks to this site.
Making long story short, somehow three of my credit cards were transferred to collection agency. Collection reps grabbed me like a hot dog. It was mid-2005. They started calling my home and my work anytime and all the days in a week. I have received three calls from the same collection agency within 30 minutes. When I told- haven't you called me just few minutes back? each of them denieugh, how poor memory you have.
I was not aware of debt validation and FTC rules then. Again I would like to thank this site people for presenting great information here. So when I learned about debt validation I asked for it. Collectors threw my request into trash and laughed at me, saying-don't you know how much you ow. What a valid excuse!
I asked for their address, they refused. I was able to get it through this website, thanks once again. I sent them DV and cease comm. letters. I used the sample letters available with this sitemthank you very much. Finally two of them sent me debt validation; however it seemed incomplete and incorrect. One of the two accounts were showing exceptionally high balance that crossed my credit limit even. The third collection agency was a real joker. They glued some other's account number with my name (that I realized after checking my credit report) and claimed the balance of this account too¦what a poor memory you have.
Top of that, all of you reported to CRA. You can do it, but the wrong information was killing me. It's the great info on this site that helped me understand how to get a wrong entry removed from credit record. So I disputed with three of the bureaus. I am sure of getting positive response very soon.
Now I know so much on debt collection that I can educate another person efficiently I think. I'll be posting in this forum so that others get some help. After reading this forum I'm confident that once the wrong info is removed and all the credit cards are consolidated, my score is geared up to rise high. I'm getting married this year. Me and my fiance are planning to buy new home. Life is going to be cool once again. Chill.

Stella,
Welcome to forums :D
I'm very happy to know how you managed the whole situation. One thing that I have felt after reading your story, people are harassed because they are not aware of their own rights. Little more consciousness would do better.
Just recall the time when you did not know well about the rules of fdcpa and were flooded by collection calls. You stopped it easily when you educated yourself a bit more. Was it a heavy syllabus???.nope, just few words of caution and the basics of your rights.
Hence if everybody becomes attentive there will be no story of harassment. Hope your story would help others end encourage all. Best of the luck for your coming days.
Great story Stella, and congrats on your move to become debt free
