Hail

What do you think about this? When it happens?

You're very right FYI. It is partially a natural thing. Sure, people might contribute a bit, down from the coal smoke filled skies of Victorian times. What "global warmists" rarely mention, is the "little ice age" from about 1300 to 1825. Before 1300, seasons were very warm indeed. Between 1300 and 1820, there were many "years withou summers", and the River Thames froze over every year, up till the 1700s. I believe the earth is simply bouncing back into one of its warming periods.

So the fact that we cut down acres of the rain forest every day, and have millions of vehicles on the road, and millions more factories churning out billions of tons of CO2, and you think we "might contribute a bit"? It's way more than a bit. There is a gentle balance in the world, a balance that man is taking for granted. When it financially benefits him to ignore it, he will. Until big business can make money off of saving the environment, they will continue to hire and promote ideologies that say global warming is a myth.

I can't believe my post was deleted off this thread! If someone does not agree with me that is no reason to censor me! I am an environmentalist and a member of the NWF. I own the web address frogpatch.com which is being developed into a green site.
Global warming is real and greenhouse gases are at least partially to blame. It has already cost the lives of polar bears in the artic and threatens to wipe them out. It is not to late to reverse it but it will take the effort of the entire globe. Especially China who pollutes the air making you environmentally freindly artificial trees.

I still agree with FYI, there's no way that it will be completely stopped because of it partly being a natural event. As to our contribution, trouble is that most only think of America's pollution. But the fact is, the more America tries to "go green", the more places like China, Mexico, and India throw pollutants into the air. American companies (as well as others from the western world) relocate to Mexico and China, etc, not just for the cheap labor and trade agreement, but because those places have very loose or nonexistanat enviromental codes. Go to some industrial town in Mexico, you'll see things such as mercury in the ditches, toxic smoke rising...

I completely agree with that, LS. The key is for us to start, and then apply pressure on these companies to either produce their products in a safer fashion or we will take a business elsewhere. The all mighty dollar speaks volumes.

I would be a fool to say there have not been natural changes in the earth over time. The facts remain, though, that the changes in the earth this cycle are far more severe than in any point in the history of the planet. So while we may be in a natural warming cycle, human intervention is making this cycle more intense.

There are absolutely are natural changes in the Earths history. Look at the dust bowl of the 30s. Just look at the affects just the moon has on the tides. Imagine the affect the sun has by being just a little warmer or cooler or sligtly closer or further away. The amount would be immeasurable but the effects would be catastrophic. A cloud of space dust passing through our solar system could turn the earth into a deep freezer. This does not make it OK to create gases that do not allow the UV rays to escape and a big gaping hole to let more of them in. I live in Florida and the melanoma rate has grown in leaps and bounds here because on the excessive UV rays in recent years.

You're right frogpatch, there are also cosmic ray which penitrate the earth by the billions. This is one reason why at this time long range space flight in impossible. If astronauts went even to Mars, a trip lasting, say, two or three years, most of them would be dead from cancers shortly afterwards because they would have the full force of radioactive cosmic rays (at least were're protected a bit by the earth's atmosphere.
