Recently, a lien was placed on my checking account by one company. Although, I wasn't served personally, apparently they tried contacting me by mail several times and were unsuccessful. I authorized them to release the lien by fulfilling payment to them. My question is because of this recent scare I pulled all three of my credit reports to make sure this should not happen again.

I did see an account that was bought by another collection agency, who now owns the debt which was originally opened in 4/1995. I was unconcerned about this debt because I figured that the statue of limitations in Florida has expired and I am no longer legally obligated to pay this debt. I don't remember ever promising to pay this debt or even attempting to pay this debt...

I don't want to call them to find out because I don't want them to record my phone call as an acceptance of debt and start the statue of limitations all over again. I am fear of anyone ever seizing my account again and have moved my direct deposit for my job into another persons name....I don't want to live like this. Please give me some advice.

My credit report reflects and almost 7k debt owed due to interest rates accrued over time. The initial balance was 4500K.

Hi Henry

Welcome to the forums.

Relax! This debt is out of the SOL period and a collection agency can't legally force you to make payment towards it. SOL is renewed only when you make a payment towards the account. This means that the date of last activity is renewed with the payment now made and hence the collection efforts also get started from the beginning.

So, if you place a call to the company, your SOL won't get renewed. Yes, you should not give them your phone number and neither update your personal info until the debt is legally validated.

Call from a payphone and this way your home phone will be out of their reach. Inquire about this matter and send them a letter of dispute. It is very necessary to place the dispute if the CA is after you for a debt. Otherwise, they will send it to the court and if you do not defend yourself and not appear in the court, the judge will take action in their favor and you will have no other way but to pay it.

So, disputing the debt is what is most important with the collection agency. Legally, you don't have to pay anything to them as the debt is out of the SOL period.

Don't worry; start recording their phone calls if they harass you. You can consult your attorney also.

I recently found out that my ex/wife[s unpaid phone bill was ruining my credit report, unbeknownst to me. How do I contact Pallasides Collection agency to strike this small but damaging black mark off my record?

Hi Dan

Welcome to the forums.

Do check your bills if AT&T has forwarded it to this collection agency. It happens most of the times that this collection agency puts false information on the individual's credit file. Please dispute this bill with the CA at the following address:

Two Irving Centre 702 King Farm BLVD
Rockville Maryland 20850
U.S.A.
Phone Number:
240-386-3200
