My account is shown in collections in my CR. I have already paid it few months back. They are calling me and asking me to pay it again. They are also offering a ???settlement' amount. My file has gone in worse shape. Is there anything that can be done or am I out of luck?

When you paid your debt to the previous agency, did you take the receipts of your payments made? They should have updated your credit file as ‘paid collections’ with the credit bureaus. Since it was not done, another collection agency is trying to pull money from you.

At this time, you should contact your previous agency whom you paid the money and ask them to update your accounts. Also, you can show the receipts of your payments made to the present collection agency. Once your credit file is updated with the bureaus, you will have a good financial standing in the future.

You should deal with any collection agency with a strong mind. Endure the following points before making any financial decision with them.

  • When you deal with any collection agency, never get afraid and assume that you are doing something wrong. Have a strong feeling that you are correct and that your rights are being violated.

  • Keep all the communication made with them in safe place. This will help you in proving your guide.

  • debt validation is very necessary before you make payment arrangements with them. Until the debt has been validated, you are not required to update your contact information with them. Always remember that past billing statements are not regarded as the proof in debt validation.

  • Never accept any ???offers' of settlement or any other way of pulling money from you.

  • Always keep a check on your credit report.

  • If you find any fraudulent activity committed by a collection agency on your bank accounts, contact a lawyer who specializes in the lawsuits of fdcpa and FCRA violations.

these are some rude and unprofessional people who should not be in their line of work. they harassed me on the phone, and proceeded to call me a "little girl trying to avoid paying a debt." other than a fax number and business address... is there any other way of contacting them via email?
