I was sure I had posted my story, but can't find it. So here goes again! About 16 years ago,my second husband and my two kids were living the American Dream. New home, new cars, etc. Well, our house was in a flash flood(we had flood ins.) and we walked out of our house with the clothes on our back and my son's meds. To make a long story short, the flood ins. was a big joke, they have the authority to determine what they want to do,and we were sent to a hotel at our expense,Flood ins. isn't like homeowmers,it's all at your expense, We then got help from the Red Cross,God bless them, they got us a rent house and we waited for our insurance money. We had to take out 6 loans to fix our house, sure that ins. would cover it-Wrong.They didn't and we got deeper and eeper, lost the house, cars everything was foreclosed on. Got out of that mess, sure never to get back into it,and many years later due to health, loss of job, etc. got deeper into credit card debt, with only paying minimums, etc. I found this site after LVNV threatened to sue,was abusive, etc. I was without hope, scared, sure there were no options, and Im a counselor!!After reading the forums for a long time I decided to sign up,after I was sure this wasn't a scam !!!The people in this forum helped educate me in my rights and shared their experience with me. Today I have paid off the IRS,and several small bills, and workin on paying off two more small ones this month. I still have phillips-Cowen,LVNV hanging over my head, but I don't feel that panick I did when I came to this siteToday I knwo I can do what I can only do,and not to get myself in a big bind just to get creditors off my back. I am trying to be more responsible, while not letting others use me as a door mat.I am on my way to becoming debt-free,thanks to all of you and this forum :D ...Karen

Karen, I feel more close to you after reading your story. You got into your financial problems because of some unavoidable natural calamity. God puts us in problems in varieties and then helps us in unknown ways also.

I am happy that you never felt in turmoil and slowly took control over your problems.

I also started posting here after a long time (not because of the reason you had to detect if its a scam) I remember when you were posting as a guest before you finally signed up here and had log in troubles in the beginning.

It's good to be on the same board and talk with each other. At least, it's a feeling to share with someone and not feel alone amidst the problems.

Karen---I enjoyed reading your story. Sometimes we have to go through a lot of cr&p in life and learn a bunch of difficult lessons before you get to a point where you can determine what you have learned (does that make sense?) and then use your new knowledge to avoid making the same mistakes again. I have been through many difficult trials and life experiences, yet sometimes its years before I realize what I learned.

Thanks for sharing your story Karen. The flood insurance part really pisses me off. You pay these insano premiums and then they turn their tail and run when you need them the most. F@&ers!

I had my own insurance headache two and a half years ago when my car skidded on ice on an unsanded road. My insurance company took their own sweet time sending the check to the car guy, who ended up doing a really pisspoor job of fixing my car. On top of that, when I had to ask my insurers to extend their coverage of the rental, they did so, but I got this bitchy call from them saying "Normally, we don't do that" to which I replied, "I wouldn't have needed you to if you weren't the ones taking your own sweet time to pay that check." and then the little witch just repeated herself, then I yelled "YOUR FAULT, NOT MINE! DON'T F&*^&NG BOTHER ME ANYMORE!" and that was the end of that.

Long and short of it, insurers are pirates.

Yeah Karen you are tough! Women who have been to Hell and back and are still up and running, and live to tell about it are tough. Ask me---I know---.

When I say tough I don't mean "hard" but maybe hardened to the cr@p that comes along in life and refuse to take it lying down. I don't and won't.

Sorry I haven't look at this for a while-want to thank all of you for your kind comments.I guess the big lesson I have learned is,life is going to be life, what I do with it,my reactions, and actions are what matters. There are always going to be tough things happen, but I can accept responsibility,do what I can,and leave the rest to God,there are alot of things beyond my control, such as people and things. This does't mean I become a door-mat,but learn to pick my battles wisely. Thanks to you people I have learned knowledge is power. Now I don't have to get overwhelmed, scared, etc.,just because someone is threatening to sue me or whatever. What a blessing this forum has been! And so much thanks to the people in it.I will have another small bill paid off this month and another one next month.Slowly but surely :D ...Karen
