My husband and I are in the process of clearing up old debt that was acquired before we got married. I have been receiving calls on my cell phone from a collection agency LTD Financial Services. I spoke with an representative and provided the correct phone number to contact my husband. This happen on 11/20/05.

On 11/21/05 my husband received two phone calls on his cells regards this debt. My husband spoke with the representative and establish a payment arrangement on 11/20/05 when they called my cell phone. He provided our home number.

I received a phone call from the same company on my cell phone. I told the representative, do not contact him at this number. The representative began to get nasty with me. All I wanted was for them not to call me on my cell phone. She stated that she will continue call my number. She hung up on me.

I called them back to speak with a manager. I ask the manager to remove my cell phone number off their records and call the number that my husband provide them. He stated that "My husband lied to me and I need to yell at him because we both owe the debt."

I verbally ask for a desit & cease from calling my cell phone. I know that my husband owe a debt but I do not want them to call me on my cell phone.

I have another question, am I responsible for my husband's debt that was aquired way before the marriage?

Thank you kindly. :D

Here is the address for them that I could find. I would send them a cease & desit letter by certified return receipt mail. That way they have to follow it. As far as being responsible, I am sorry but I really haven't a clue. I would send the letter though.

LTD Financial Services

If there is an account number, I would make sure you put that in the letter also.

Hi zetadream4

Welcome to the forums.

Every individual has a separate credit identity and the accounts are recorded in the respective credit files. You won't be held responsible for your husband's debt unless you have signed the agreement with him.

Did you sign any of the agreement while this debt was incurred? If not, you can stay away from it.

A sample of cease and desist letter has been attached in the thread given below. Please have a look.

You can send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. Once they have received your notification, they are required to stop contacting you at your cell phone. If not, you have the federal rights to take legal actions. Hope this will keep them in the best of their behavior.

Regards
Roxette

I have not signed anytime of agreement. As I previously stated before this was debt ocurred before the we were even dating.

LTD Services continue to harass me until it gotten real ugly over the phone and I proceed to report the company to the FTC. After filing that report, I have not received any calls.

WRONG. if they are in a community property state, and: 1. the debt was incurred during their marriage or 2. the spouse of the debtor gained from the services in colllections - the debt is shared by the spouse and it can be reported on their credit.

After buying a new cell phone several months ago, I too have been receiving calls from LTD regarding a person I have no knowledge about. Every time they call I go through the same explanation and ask that they remove my number from their database. I have called and emailed LTD regarding this and have been assured on at least two occasions that the calls will stop. They haven't, so I just filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau as well as Federal Trade Commission.

Pleae advise of any other actions I may take in this regard.
