Hi Henry
Welcome to the forums.
I will suggest you to immediately contact your lenders in order to avoid any foreclosure. Lenders will organize a payment plan for you if they understand your willingness to pay the debt and this present situation is temporary. If you contact your lenders with clean intentions, they might also suspend or reduce your payments for this period. Later on, you can continue with the payments though some charges might be added on it.
Some lenders will also frame your payment plan in such a way so that the monthly payment gets reduced and the repayment period is extended. If you are unable to work out a payment plan, search for a counseling agency that can help you in such situations. Call the local office of the Department of Housing and Urban Development or the housing authority in your state, city, or county for help. They will help you in finding a perfect counseling agency that can work in your program.

falling behind on mortgage
henry,
Have you spoken with your lender? Sometimes they are able to work out a re-payment agreement with you. Usually you will need to list your monthly outgo and income with them over the phone. Sometimes they will extend the payments over a longer term, so you aren't having to pay double. If your loan is FHA insured, you may try calling the HUD loan servicing center too. They will help you negotiate with your lender.
I know in some cirmcumstances, the loss mitigation department of your lender will try for a loan modification for you if you have experienced a hardship, but are able to make your normal mortgage payment.
Beware of refinance scams, and whatever you do, don't take out a payday loan to cover the shortage, it will only make the situatiion worse.
Good luck to you!
