If you make a catalog purchase on a deferred billing program and return the item, the company will charge your debit card and then issue a credit a day or two later regardless of the deferred date. This just happened with my wifes purchase from Modern Woman. Fortunately I had just enough to cover it but it has left me short waiting for the credit!

Most of this depends on how they process electronic transactions. Some find it easier to do the double charge then full credit back.This is another example of why more people should use a credit card to protect their checking account from this procedure.
