Did you ever go to a restaurant and servers walk by and deliberately do not look in your direction. It is annoying. How does it make you feel?
I see people come to this forum needing help but their area of need is not necessarily as simple as others to resolve, or maybe we just do not know the answer. Please do not let these people drop off the bottom without a response. I had one my posts drop off recently because none of my friends knew what to say. I know the reason because I work here. Others don't. They just leave with a bad impression or post again the same question. Just as the server in the restaurant should make eye contact and say "someone will be with you," we should do the same. It is called customer service. At least say that someone with more expertise will be along to help you soon and bump the thread back up.
I am not saying that everyone does or doesn't do this. It is a general observation. I do however believe that certain people are motivated by points more than they should be and find that a a cut and paste reply may be the easier road. I have observed if a person comes here with a PDL mess they are literally gang tackled by help but if the subject is limited to advice that requires specific expertise in a narrow area they often fall off the bottom after one or two replies if any. Please just take the time, like the server in a fine restaurant and say "someone will be with you shortly, sorry to keep you waiting." Blinders are for horses and servers in bad restaurants! We are a fine website and should maintain a high level of professionalism like the fine restaurant. I know that some of you are going to get annoyed by this post but I felt it was necessary. So have at me if you wish but this is what I see and how I feel!

Good post Frog...
We have many situations posted here from fairly simple to highly complex and may not be within someones realm of expertise. Also, I know there are waves in which many of are signed on and then some times in the day very few people signed on. In any case, an acknowledgement before it gets too far down the stack is a nice idea and shows a kind offer of support. :)

I generally don't post if someone else has said the same thing I might have said.

I also post in some threads where I truely feel that the individual really does want help. Now thats not to say that those I don't reply to don't also want and need help, I'm just saying that some threads feel more right than others for me.

You guys are all great! :D Frog, this is a wonderful post! A lot of the time this site seems to be geared towards payday loans, and that's great, because people who are mixed up with those crooks need our help! I don't know very much about payday loan laws, so I hesitate to help out when things get really serious. My expertise is in payroll issues and garnishments, so I am glad I can assist there.
Another small issue we might have...I have seen answers given just for the sake of giving answers. I think it's important to know exactly what we're talking about before giving someone in trouble advice. I have never seen that from anyone in this thread..Or anyone who I think will post in this thread..And I don't think I've ever seen that in a payday loan thread. I think it's just something we all need to think about.

I have no problem trying to assist anyone or telling them someone will be along shortly, however my question is this: what do we do about these old posts that are coming to light? Are we suppose to answer them or not? There have been many times I have seen replies stating that they were old posts and the questions have already been answered. How do we handle that?

Good point Lady. I think if there is a legitimate question, regardless of the age of the thread, we should answer it. I know it could be irritating to see someone ask what we think is the same thing over and over again. but maybe they really aren't, or maybe they just missed the info they needed or need some clarification.

Fins, I agree that answering just to answer or post some nonsense is a problem especially if the answer isn't adding value. I generally only see it from a handful of people and I am glad that it is somewhat limited but it is aggrivating.

I also think answering or responding to any threads created that were obviously made to troll the forum is a problem. Why give them the credit or any piece of your time in even responding. Even someone new to this forum learns very quickly what this site is all about.

Thanks for all the responses to this post and for your valued opinions. And thanks for not letting it fall off the bottom. That would have been really frustrating!
I came here originally by doing a google search on Route 66 Funding which brought me to an old thread. I got a wealth of info from there and eventually became a member. Many people show up on old threads that way and post to them. That was 8 months ago and that thread is still being posted to occasionally!

I didn't mean to offend anyone with the term "beat a dead horse" I in fact have a 25 year old horse myself and was only using that as a term...again I am sorry.

I also have a german shepherd that has done the exact same thing to a cat like that...they get carried away...so I know what you mean.

Is there a thread on the pub, or somewhere, that lists what all of our specialties are? That way we can say that "so-and-so", our payroll, or banking, or payday loan, expert isn't on right now, but she/he really knows a lot about this subject, and should be along shortly to help answer questions in case nobody else comes along. That way they can at least know that we're NOT trying to ignore them. We just feel like their question is complicated enough to warrant someone with more expertise to try and help them better than we could. So they don't get the wrong info.

That would be a good idea except for the fact most of us are not really qualified "experts." Just people who have been down similar roads. There are a several that that have really done their homework, like Cajunbulldog and Goudah for example. And some that know the laws of a particular state or are in a related business. But to list all the experts may be crossing the line a bit and creating liabilty issues. What does everybody else think?

I don't think we can say we are experts when we aren't- or at least I am not-don't claim to be.

If I am not mistaken, when I joined about 2 years ago, there were around 28,000 members. The first time I posted, it wasn't answered immediatley-took a little while. The people here mostly get answers, I think. I try to go to the thread of unanswered posts and see if there are posts I can answer. Some of the topics I have info on or experience in, some not-Like student loans- I never had one and don't have info on them.

I know I haven't been on as much for a week or so because of mom being back in the hospital, and SueBee and Roxy are busy or injured, but we, as well as the others, will get back on track!

If you see posts with no replies, check them out and see if you can help!!..Karen

I know what you mean!! Sometimes I feel like a complete idiot, I don't know a whole lot about PDLS. Yes, I had a few, but I had extensive help in dealing with them. All I can do in that area is share my own experiences.
I do, however, handle garnishments for a living, so I know the ins and outs of garnishment laws and how to handle or avoid them. I also understand wage assignments due to my job. But an expert...NO WAY!!!

Bah! I don't think anyone took it offensive! I use terms all of the time that I typically try and leave off of the internet because it could easily be misunderstood.

I thought it was funny!

Thanks frogpatch for posting that. Sometimes it can be a fine line between trying to be helpful and trying not to get caught with a dilettante's game. But, especially as we grow, we need to make people feel welcome here. Even sometimes when a poster shows a side that is not very informed or serious, it seems to me that people here generally at least try to be helpful, and even have a lot of fun doing so!

Thanks again!
