Accoding to my credit report, one of my creditors shows a charge-off, can they try to collect on this debt now, even though it has been charged off?

Yes, the original creditor can sell it to a cellection agency for collection effort. Once a debt os charged off, the OC has written off the account as bad debt. Sometimes the OC will contact you after charge off and offer a settlement to atleast recover some of the money.
