I want to know is wage garnishment legal in the Metro DC area? I work in Virginia and I live in Maryland. I've tried to talk to these people but the guy that I was speaking with in regards to making arrangements to pay off this damn thing just kept getting rude each and every time. Plus he would call me on my job and constantly harrass me about paying back the loan in which I was trying to make arrangements with him about. Will someone please send me an answer. This is really bothering me.

Hi, welcome to the forums!

Payday loans are usually only intended to be for short term use. The interest rates are very high because o the lenght of the loan? What company did you loan with? Some lendors will let you renew each pay period. The amount you pay to renew, however, does NOT go towards the repayment of the loan.

Have you already defaulted on the loan? I'd also like to add that most lendors break the repayment into 2 different payments on your paydate. That way, if they're only able to get 1/2, at least they have something. But this also puts a burden on you if they can't get anything. Not only are they chargine you 2 different NSF fees of usually $29 ($58), but so is your financial instituation.

What kind of repayment plan are going to offer them if they're willing to accept?

Could you give us more details?

Regards
Mike

did they already start garning you?...hi i work at a collection law firm currently and am one of the paralegals there...if not you can answer the garnishment and say you are under poverty guidelines and they will set up a court date for this...also if they took a civil judgement against you...then call the county court house the suit was filed and reopen the case ..... you will need a good reason for this to reopen the case so if you tell them you didnt get served or they filed the suit in the wrong county that you dont live in then they wont be able to garnish u

There are seven loans over about a year or so. They did not go into default until July. I always paid them back and ther got another one. I had to many and could not pay the payments any longer. The total might be about 3,000 with late fees and finace charges.
