Can they do this?

I had some dental work done starting in 2004 and ended in late 2005. I have been making payments the whole time. I even set up a payment plan with the office that we both agreed upon. I NEVER missed a payment. Yesterday they sent me a letter that they are going to sent me to collections if I don't pay the balance off. Can they do this? I made a payment plan. I even offered to pay a large amount to them if they wrote off the balance.

They are pushing you with this collection threat so that you get
They are pushing you with this collection threat so that you get scared and send them the complete amount. It doesn't matter to the office how you will arrange for it, but they are feeling that enough time has been invested on you.
If you have the payment plan in writing, you can bring them on ground saying that you are doing what was stated in the plan and you have proof of it.
