I need some help. I was fired from my job due to a mistake on my part. I couldn't find a job for two months due to being "overqualified" according to interviewers. I finally found one making considerably less, but it is enough to make my monthly bills. My problem is this.. how can I catch up on the bills that went unpaid? Any advice? The bills are just regular living expenses, rent & utilities. I have no credit card debt and I have poor credit due to past mistakes. Please .. some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sometimes just talking to the utility companies and your landlord helps. You can explain your situation, and hopefully they will be sympathetic. Also, I've heard that The Salvation Army and United Way will sometimes help out in a situation like this. Also, since you've registered, a debt counselor in your area will be contacting you shortly, who can discuss your options with you. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck.

Do not allow your debt to income ratio go higher. Cut off any unnecessary expenses from your daily needs. You don't have to do this forever. This restricted living will be for a short time until the debts are paid off.

Consolidation is another good option. The payments will be according to your affordability in a month. Call the lenders and inform about your interests of paying the debts. They will offer some benefits in your repayments. A few options are mentioned in this link.

I want to consolidate my debt into one payment so that I just have one place to pay, but because of my bad credit no one will finance me and I don't want to get a payday loan either. Could someone help me with advice on what companies will finance me.

Most utilities companies will allow you to set up some type of repayment plan. Paying an additional $30-$50 extra per month till you're caught up.

Calling your utility company will help greatly. Putting this aside while trying to figure out what to do won't help. By letting them know you're in need of help, and what might be available for you, will show them your geniune in repaying your debt.

Mike
