Judgement for Voluntarily Repossessed Car Legality?

My husband just received a Judgement against him for a car that he Voluntarily had Repossessed SEVEN years ago!!! Now they are saying he owes BB&T over $8000! Is this legal if he was NEVER notified of this until 7 years later??


No, he said he never received anything! The last he knew they came & took the car almost 7 YEARS AGO... That was IT, no letters, no summons, nothing... If he had known he owed them money he would have worked something out...

And he lived in the same exact place for 4 years after that, so if they HAD sent something he surely would have gotten it...

But we are worried because today he went to talk to an attorney & they said there is nothing they can do! They said he has to pay the $8,333 or else try to apply for a settlement, or that he could file bankrupsy!!!! He's not even 30 years old!!! Filling bankruspy is absolutely rediculous....

I just don't know what to do... I mean, obviously we can't pay that.... But at the same time, we shouldn't HAVE to... There has to be some way we can dispute it.... :(
