Getting an Apartment??

I am sorry if this is in the wrong board, someone please move it if it is.
I really want to move when my lease is up. I am renting from a person (as opposed to a complex) and I know I pay too much money and it is really is a struggle for me to make rent every month. I also do not live in the safest area and would like to move to somewhere nicer.
I have been looking into this and noticed that I can get an apartment in a better town for less money! But they all require credit checks.. I have been late for rent before but never had to go to court over it. My rent is always, always paid and it actually would be even easier to pay rent somewhere else as it would be cheaper.
is there anyway to go about this? i have a steady job but my credit is just beat :( ( i had bankruptcy, late payments, etc.)

We had that also on ours and we still got ok'd. But I did tell them before that my credit didn't look so good and we were working on it. So give it a shot and see what happens. I will keep my fingers crossed for ya that you get it. :D

thanks!! it will not be until several months but i want to look as early as possible, i can save at least $100 a month!! That's the minimum of what i could save, it would help me out so much plus my car insurance will be lowered as the neighborhood is much safer and the crime rate is almost nothing in the new town (plus i am still close to work!)
