Federal restitution

I have been paying federal restitution for 10 years now. My balance owed is going up & up, because of the interest rates the feds are charging. Does anyone know how long they can keep making me pay the restitution?

This is a govt. debt and it must have specific terms and conditions. If you are not making the payments as its specified, the interest will only go higher. Besides, since it's a legal affair, you need to be alert on this one otherwise you may fall into problems anytime. Talk to an attorney for some sound advice.

Under sentencing act of 1996 they (Feds) can make you pay 20 years from the end of any term of imprisionment you may have been ordered to.
