Hey there..

Same boat as everyone else. Need to get a decent loan with substandard credit to consolidate some smaller debts in one. Ran across the Second Chance Financial Group website.

It is listed under secondchancegrp dot com. Very slick looking page, enough to fool me anyway. So sent in my app. They pre-approved. Asked for social security, paystub, to be faxed. Did that unfortunately. Got the call. Approved for 10k, BUT, need that $1500 deposit to get started for "insurance". Also was told if I owned a '02 or new vehicle for collateral or had a co-signer making over 60k yearly, the "deposit" could be waived. They also want the money western unioned which is what threw off my radar.

My wife had actually spoken to them first and was leary. Sounded like they were a home based operation. I called later and was greeted by a guy who seemed intimately familiar with me without ever asking my name. Very phony.

Thankfully, I did research and found your folks page.
I am happy we didn't fall into the trap and sorry for those who have, but at least I can add this name to the directory of ones not to waste your time on!

They are also based in Canada. The web link they send on the email is an invalid page, and the contact name was Andrea White at 888-718-5740

My only concern at this point is they have personal information, so identity theft is theoretically possible *sighs* but no money wasted anyways.

Thanks again to all those sharing there experiences!

So true.. We discussed that topic this evening as a matter of fact. I was reading however that it had a negative effect as to obtaining new credit if you had a fraud alert on?

I put a question mark there because I would love some feedback on that for sure. We still are in need of a consolidation loan in the next few days, etc. Avoiding the pdl trap, don't mind a high rate as it frankly would be savings with the higher interest cards were trying to lose. That said..

Our thought on that was, we caught them at end of "business" today so was going to apply at 1-2 more loan places with a bit more caution and toss a fraud alert on both of our accounts midday tomorrow. Too late to stave it off? Maybe a gamble?

Well, getting late, need to get some zzzs. But it is a shame. I always found that ironic that those who most desperately need to dig their way out, are usually the ones who are targeted for junk like this, or forced to pay abominable rates. I totally understand the reasoning *grin* but it sure does seem one-sided if your the broke one..lol

Thanks again folks, I appreciate the input.

xred-Thanks for the info about Second Chance...i word of caution, always check with the licensing agencies for a valid business AND lender license. Also check the BBB.

Now..about your credit report. The fraud alert will mean that you will have to give additional identification in order to obtain credit. You mention you applied for 1-2 loans today and then want to "toss" a fraud alert onto your credit bureau tomorrow...doesnt work like that. You need to send something in writing to all the CB's and it takes more than a couple of hours unless you have a police report.

What will affect your credit it all of these inquiries you are now getting from all of these places you are applying to...

Thanks Volley.. that is interesting. I had read an article referencing the lifelock service. Was curious to see if it was worth the monthly fee. The gent reviewing the service gave the three numbers and wrote it was easy as making a telephone call to all three, every 6 months.

So I am glad to get details on the process thank you. It doesn't sound bad at all if all you have to do is provide additional ID in running a loan, I'd be more than willing to take the time for that.

My apologies group for working on a second topic on this post, got a bit sidetracked.

Overall, I am just throughly glad to have found these forums and everyones experiences. I must have crawled through 5 hours of reading yesterday and today..lol

Hummm... i think over at true credit all u have to do is click a box to put a fraud alert on ur report... U may want to check that out.
But i also heard that putting a fraud alert on ur report does indeed kinda hurt u when creditors look at ur report. I asked my banker when i was there Friday and she is checking for me and will call me back on that. I'll let u know when i hear back.
Much Luck,
Ang

I fell for this i was working with a representative by the name of Kimberly Rogers. To this date i have not received any money from this company and i requested my deposit t be given back to me. Good thing is i kept all the paper trail between Kimberly and i and i have faxed letters to this company threatening a lawsuit against them if i do not get my deposit or my loan back. For those who have actually sent this pple money we need to come together and sue this company becoz we do have the Contract that has all the details. Because i do want my money back and i do want this lil stupid company shut down for taking adv of pple

My wife just had it out w/ David Walters on the phone. He was sweet talking her on the phone this morning and after she read the info here, she drilled him with questions. He assured us we had to check with the BBB to see that he was a good company. When I tried to ask why I would send money to him via Western Union, he hung up on us. I just checked the NJ BBB and saw the multiple variations on the company name all connected to their NJ address which is even linked to FL BBB. If you Google their company name, there is even a report from the state of Washington on them.

I too fell for their scam!
Luckily, they only got a copy of my drivers lic. and proof of income. My SSN however is not on my drivers lic. so they don't have that. What sort of info. can
they get from just my drivers lic. number?
Am I screwed now?

I hate reading all these because the same thing happened to me. The company was Conerstone Lending or CSL. The representative Nicole Thompson called me one day at work and said that my loan for $10,000 was approved but that I needed to send in a security deposit of $1,800. She faxed me a contract and I filled everything out sent a copy of my social security card, pay check stub, and all my bank account information. She told me once she had the paperwork it would take a few days to process and then she would call me about how to make the security deposit. My husband was skeptical but I really believed in this I am sure because we really needed it. She called me the next day and said that I needed to send the money through Western Union. This was surprising for me because I was just going to send a check. I didn't have time to go to the Western Union so she said that they have different couriers each day so call her when I could go. I started to get really worried now. Needless to say it is a SCAM!! Stay away from CSL. We also got contacted by SeaCoast Lending another SCAM!!

they contacted us but i was very leery (they do not know how to spell in an email) the address we got was in canada but was non-existant, we got a different contact name than the other poster, their postal code doesn't exist. i had called them back the next day and told them i was a representative of *my husband's name* and needed them to contact me asap. they ran like the wind.. :D

by the way, the BBB has lots of great info so look those companies up, also try rip off report, complaints.com .

My wife called me today saying she received 3 phone calls from Second Chance credit saying they needed to speak to me. When she told them I was at work they said they would call back. And they did, 3 times consecutively. My wife indicated that they sounded like they were talking in a cardboard box and our call display showed unknown name/number.

Being very suspicious, I did some searching and found this site. Reading up on some of the discussions, it was noted they were in Canada (as am I) and that their webiste was secondchanggrp[dot]com. I don't know if any one has done a Whois on this website but I did and this is what I found:

I called the number of the listed registrant and a woman answered... when I said I was looking for the registrant for this website she said I had the wrong number and immediately hung up. A very poor attempt to hide their identity themselves when they could simply have paid for private registration.

Furthmore that website was down so they are probably on to other sites as the whois search indicated the same registrant was associated with 9 other domains.

Just an FYI

Just to add on updated information! This company is also connected to a number of different fictitious names...1st Financial Group, M4 Financial Group, Inc., and Global Client Solutions! Owners listed are Lisa M Morgan, Christina Barry, and Matthew Moskos. These people are a big part of a Scam Fraud which claims to help those in credit debt trouble and will in fact cause you even more trouble then you can afford while at the same time take your money and run. A number of their business addresses were closed down after a number of complaints were filed through the BBB - 23 complaints so far. I, myself, have filed a court civil suit action against them and they are good about dodging the bullets from Law Enforcement Summons Servers for which can be very costly. Warning: to get them tracked down properly and at lesser cost, seek a Private Process Server which a list can be provided to you from the Clerk of the Courts!
