I am looking to obtain a personal loan of about $2000. The purpose is to catch up on several bills which are behind and pay some taxes. My credit score is around 500 right now. I have been unable to obtain a loan anywhere. I tried my bank, a local credit union and the big online companies like Citi Financial, Beneficial, etc. I already have a small Prosper loan which is being paid on time every month. I am NOT looking for a debt consolidation program. I am strictly looking for any legitimate personal loan info. Does anyone have info on other private lenders? My only collateral is a paid off car worth about $1000 as I am a renter. I know all about the advance fee loan scams and not to fall for them. Any ideas would be very helpful - thanks!

I replied to you in the other thread before I read this topic. I thought you could ask help from your bank but seems like you have had a tough luck everywhere. At this point, I am not sure if any company will be willing to offer you any kind of loan. Hopefully, debt consolidation is the only answer to your existing problems.

Any specific reasons, why you don't want to enroll in this program?

even though your bank declined you, try going back to them and see about doing a CD secured loan. If you have, or have a friend or family member that can lend you the $2000.00, stick it into a Certificate of Deposit acct and use it as collateral against the loan. This way, you can get approved, regardless of credit history, income, etc and it puts a loan in your name. The interest rate is generally 2.5% + the rate of the CD, but banks may differ. This is something I offer my clients when they are declined on a personal loan due to credit.

Your monthly payments are generally interest only, so monthly payments are relatively low. BUT, be sure to make PRINCIPAL payments too, this way you can pay off the loan yourself, and not have to use the CD acct to pay off the loan when the loan matures, and you pay back who ever loaned you the money you put into the CD acct. Plus, you earned some interest on the money you put into that account.

This is one of the easiest ways to start getting your credit score back up, and loans approved in your name with out a co-signer.

Hope this helps!

Debtinwi, did you ever have luck in finding a loan? I also live in WI, and am not looking to debt consolidation. I have a bunch of smaller personal loans to friends and 2 defaulted licensed payday loans that I just want to pay off at once. Something in the neighborhood of $2000. I also have a Prosper loan for $1150 currently.

I'm registered with Prosper.com. How do I successfully get a loan from them? I tried once before to get a small ($1500) loan for car repair and never got an answer.
