My bankruptcy discharge will be 2 years in March 2011. Can I qualify for refinancing? I had not reaffirmed my home in bankruptcy. So, will that affect refinancing in any way? Currently, I have a FHA mortgage. Is it necessary to change the mortgage type?

Yes, you can go for refinancing after March 2011. However, a lot will depend on the lenders. some lenders don't like to offer loans to the borrowers when they see bankruptcy listed on credit report. As you have not reaffirmed your home, so you don't have the personal liability to pay off the loan. i don't think it will have any affect on refinancing. As far as FHA mortgage is concerned, are you not able to make the mortgage payments? If you're able to make payments, there is no need to change the mortgage type.

Normally, the interest rates of the FHA mortgages are much lower than that of private ones. However, you'll get various options in a private mortgage loans. Both the loans have some pros and cons. It is better to compare the 2 types of loans before making a decision.
