I tried to buy a house 2 years ago and they said my hubby and I didnt' qualify because our credit scores weren't up to par. His was 590 and mine was 500. We were told that the credit scores needed to be at least 600. Is this the norm for a mortgage loan? We have since paid some bills off and are current on everything, however, our scores haven't improved much. I just want to know if we should try again or wait till they reach 600 and who knows when that will be. thanks!

Check with your bank. Sometimes they will work with you if your score is lower. We talked to our bank about possibly buying the house we live in right now (my father in law owns it, but we make the payments) and they know our credit situation. The bank president said that our purchase price was too good for them to turn it down (our house and land is appraised at about 230,000-mainly because of the land...house is crap, ) and we only needed 55,000 to buy it. Even with crappy credit-they would stand to profit if we didn't pay. Every situation is differant, I would just talk to your bank.

Although, the higher your credit score the better your apr. I have gotten home loans for people with credit scores in the low 550's.
It depends on where you go. You can go to 10 banks and have them pull your credit 10 times and have your score drop each time or you can go to a loan officer ot mortgage broke and have them pull it once and have tons of banks compete for your business.

Feel free to ask me any questions I can answer email deleted.
