Do you happen to have old bank statements, or could you obtain them from the bank? Then you could see if the bank archived copies of canceled checks and have proof that you paid. This is the best way that I see to do it, but someone else may have another option shortly. :-)

If you paid them, them it's up to you to prove that you did. Contact what bank you had at the time, and speak with them in regards to this. They may be able to get you a copy of the paid check. Is it possible that you send them a check, yet it never cleared?

Best to contact the bank and verify and get a copy of the canceled check if at all possible.
