I received an unsolicited check from HFC in the mail today, $7000 at 29+% !
Maybe this is too easy, but let me know what you think:
If I strikeout all of the text on the check that pertains to the loan, is this a valid defense against collection. Do I just get to keep the money? I have a friend with an MBA & she says that the check is just like any contract, subject to amendment!
If this works, and many of us who receive these can cash them without repaying, then you know these preditory lenders will stop using this tactic-

This check with all the details will be in the system of the company who issued it. If there is any manipulation, they will know about it and may not cash it. Have you thought this way? Please correct me if I have misunderstood any portion.
