How much do I have to pay if I have been a victim of identity theft?

if you have informed your bank earlier and they have put a fraud alert, then usually you won't have to pay anything.

You have to prove the fraud first. Keep the necessary documents with you.

You can place a fraud alert for free. But if you don't take the right steps at the right time, you can lose thousands. My friend lost $5000 due to identity-theft. She couldn't prove her innocence and the credit card company refused to cooperate with her. Her credit score tanked and that affected her finances badly.

You don't have to pay nothing to your credit card provider if you have already informed them about the identity theft. The bank will put a fraud alert on your account.
