Have you tried contacting any local charity organizations/churches, ie: Salvation Army? Also try contacting your local human service dept. (welfare office) they should have what is called a retention program, even though you may not qualify for medicaid or food stamps there is a program for those with a higher income to receive assistance with utility shut offs and evictions/foreclosures. You should contact them ad inquire about such programs and have copies of any eviction notices or shut off notices.

I think all states have Sec. 8. There is a huge wait list for that program though. Each state only releases a certain amount each year and those who are already on the wait list in each county get them. BUT, if you are a family with children that is considered an emergency and you go to the top of the list.

I can tell you from a personal story that the Salvation Army kept me and my mom from living on the street. I was amazed at their help. I never pass a red bucket without putting in some money.
Also candice - any chance your church might be able to assist you? Mine has a benevolence fund to help out attenders with just a story like yours.

although i am catholic and a strong believer...can't say i'm much of a churchgoer...perhaps it's not a bad idea though at this point in my life....i certainly am going to try the salvation army today. i wonder if the church would help if i've never attened.

Also, don't think that pdl's come first. No matter what any collector might threaten your with, you can put your pdl's on the back burner until your basic needs of food and shelter are met. I've seen pdl's in default for over a year and nobody ever goes to jail or gets garnished. Those collectors are so full of prunes.

Take it from a former Catholic - I got disheartened with the church. If you are in the Will County/Dupage county area, you can always attend mine. It was thru mine that I helped cover my mortgage one month.

i don't mean to sound mushy and weird...but i love, believe, and collect angels...and someone up there sent me some angels thru this website...i cried all the way home from work this morning, scared to death of what is happening to me....it's like an avalanche.....and now there is hope...thank you so much.

Candace,
I am so sorry to hear of your trouble. Have you gotten an eviction notice, and if so, how many days were on it, ie, 30-day, three-day, etc. Depending on your state law, you might be able to possibly file a continuance. I would definately call Legal Aid or another low-cost attorney to get advice at this point as to what your rights are.
But Ari is absolutely right. Put those PDL's on the BACK BURNER right now. Your priority is to pay that back rent!

Candice! They make a 50% commission on defaulted payday loans! They'll say anything to beat you into submission and what they say is more often than not a violation of the fdcpa. Don't be afraid of those windbags. Your basic needs come first, no question about it and once again they are more full of prunes than used car salesmen! Relax!

Your food and rent come first. The PDL's can and will wait. They won't do it quietly...But they will wait.

Candice, I just pm'd Vikas a request to transfer my unused points to your account. They can be converted into cash. Currently you have 581 points, that's $5.81, I have twenty or thirty something dollars worth of points that I haven't cashed in. They are yours to celebrate this day. We have peace back in the forums, and you as a brand new member!
Following Ari's lead, I'm throwing 2000 points at you, candice.

Candice -
I just asked that my points be cashed in the other day, or I would donate! However, I do send my prayers and concern for you and your family. And please heed the advice of the other members here - those PDL companies are not going to have you arrested. Your concern is in the proper place - providing for your family!
You take care of yourself and your kids, and keep us posted!

Candice, I understand what you're going through. Supporting teenage boys is very expensive. I have three and get a decent salary, also, but without child support and with all the things they need, it's not easy. I just cashed in my points; otherwise, I would gladly donate to you. I'll see how many I can rack up. You definitely have my prayers in the meantime. You will get out of this. As hard as it is, don't let these PDL places intimidate you. You need to take care of yourself and your family first. The best of luck to you. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing. We're here for you!
Candice--You will be in that position sooner than you realize.

eviction in illinois
well i've called the Salvation Army (no funds), Daybreak (no funds), and i called Community Concern who does have funds but I do not qualify because of my Income. So I guess I will tighten my belt, and without the pdl's coming out of my check I will play catch up with the Landlord.

Nuts, nuts and nuts.
Are you ok on the basics for living? And will the landlord work with you to keep you in your place while you catch up on back rent?
The PDL's come LAST...No matter what they will try and tell you.

Yes, basics are covered, and my landlord has been pretty understanding so far, but I can tell they are losing their patience with me, which scares me to death. So right now the plan is to tighten my belt and get them paid as soon as possible. Making a trip to Aldis today, groceries are my biggest expense on a weekly basis, but there are ways of cutting corners which i really need to concentrate on to pay the backrent. I really feel like a idiot, i make decent money, but just have managed it like a moron....time to make a change. Tonite I will sit my children down and explain to them somewhat of what's going on here, and basically ask them for their help. They need to understand basics are just going to be covered here for a while, while we play catchup. If they do not know somewhat of the situation they will bug and bug for extras....hopefully they are understanding...it will be much easier, i think, if they know what's going on and why we need to do a cutback around here.

If you're honest with them, even if they fight it at first, they'll understand that it's for the best.
It's hard at first to really buckle down and cut costs, but you can do it.
And if there are extra expenses you can do without--Like cable tv, etc...Cut them. You can get it turned back on later, but you have to think necessary. Or even if you can downgrade your package, that can save some per month. (Or sometimes if you tell them you will cancel, they will discount your rates to keep you..)
We just talked about Aldi the other day. You can save so much shopping there for your groceries.
Once you get started on the saving, you'll find other ways to save.

Aldi is the bomb. You would be shocked to know who makes some of their products.
