Do we get unemployment even though we are not fired?

Can you give us more information? What were the circumstances.

You are entitled to get unemployment benefits for up to 26 weeks if you have lost your job without your own fault. Additional weeks of benefits are be available during times of high unemployment rate.

Nelly is right indeed. Many of us have applied for such additional weeks of benefits while our nation is still struggling to come out of this economic downturn.

You may not qualify to collect the unemployment benefits if you were fired for misconduct, left the job to get married, resigned due to some illness or even if you were involved in some labor dispute. Regular benefits, as already mentioned by Nelly, will be available till 26 weeks (in most states) and there will be extended benefits during times of high unemployment.

Extended unemployment benefits may be available for a maximum of 13 weeks (starting from the 26th week) to the eligible unemployed workers during a period of high unemployment rate. You may also check with the State Unemployment Office to know more about the benefits that you're entitled to receive
