I believe Medallion Financial Services in Canada is the same as all the other scams discussed here and is their newest name. I received a call from Audrey Moore at 1-800-771-1262. Told me I was approved for a $5000 loan but would need to send $650 by Western Union and the money would be wired into my account. I did not send the money but unfortunately she does have some of my personal information. On the paperwork she sent me was the name JP Patterson and Medallion Financial Services. I believe this is the same scam everyone here is talking about.

Hi dra1266

Welcome to the forums. It is illegal for any cash advance company to charge upfront fees. If you send the money to them, you will lose it and also won't get the loan deposited in your account.

Ask them to remove your name from the callers' list and refuse to be contacted by them in the future.

Scams are on the rise these days. Be cautious before you do financial transaction with any company and a bit of research will be helpful.

Regards
Roxette

It seems like a new one comes up every week.As Roxette said,they can not ask for money upfront,it is illegal,Warnings are posted on the BBB and FTC sites now,and I believe Western Union is even now warning possible victims when they go to send the money.We dont have to think about it anymore,Its this simple;
Asking for money upfront for a loan
+
Asking for money to be sent by Western Union
=
SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I reported Medallion Financial Services to the FTC on Thursday. I called them and asked "Audrey Moore" (I am sure not her real name with the accent she had) to remove my name from their calling lists and that I would not be taking the loan.
When I told her that I know it is illegal to ask for money up front for a loan, she hung up on me. Thank you everyone for your advice. I am glad I didnt send the money but am embarrassed that I actually considered it. I was desperate for a loan but that shouldnt be an excuse for making a costly mistake.

dra1266,Dont be embarrassd,I almost made the same mistake, but once I found this board and did a little investigating,I realized it was a scam. There was not alot of information out there a few months ago.I had planned to send my rent money, but I just keep getting this funny feeling that something was just not right.
Sadly,if you read some of the other post on this board, many have lost hundreds to this people. They go by many different names, changing their location and phone numbers.I was one of the luckly ones, like you who found the truth before it was to late. :D

We often make mistakes in deciding something not known to us. To prevent it, we should keep doing research and learn new things so that we don't repeat it again. Please, don't feel bad about it. :)

Hey, everyone. I was scammed by Allied Mutual Brokers in September. Afterwards, I found out that no loan company requires up-front money for a loan. I called the number listed by dra1266(1-800-771-1262) and asked for a name I made up from the top of my head. The guy who answered asked me to hold and then came back and said that the person was not in at the time. The name I gave was very unusal, so I know he was lying. This is probably the same company which until one month ago was name Allied Mutual Brokers. Anyone involve with Medallion Financial Services, please watch out. It is probably a scam.

Major Scam. Don't do it. Do not ever send upfront money for a personal loan. I spoke to an Eric Nelson. I became very inquisitive and could tell he didn't like it. Not only did he not like it, he kept trying to convince me to fax in the paperwork. I decided no way. I'm glad I didn't.

I said you have to be dealing with a bank. He gave a name i could not pronounce to save my life..I aske him then for the address and phone number he said "i don't have it"..I then said " you should be ashamed of yourselves..I'm a single mom. I'm so glad i did not send the 678.00 he was asking for up front...Is there any way we can shut this place down...PLEASE warn everyone......Thanks again!!!

Hey i applied for a loan on line. I then got an email 4 hrs later from a company named "Medallion Financle Corporation." 437 Madison Ave #38 New York. NY. 10022. Now they said i have been approved for a $5,000 loan and that it is secured. I would need a title to my care to secure it or a co-signer or loan insurance. I said i will do the loan insurance. The man Adam Mcknight said that i have to pay $500.00 down payment for the insurance and then they will deposit the funds. I have not done anything yet. But is this the scam you guys are talking about. the number i got was 1-(800) 391-4096. Someone please let me know. thanks!!! Email me @ Richard.A.Scholes@wellsfargo.com

This company and these people are still in business! I just spoke to that Adam character today and he gave me a name of Tamari Whiteside to send $500 to. I told him, "I'm trying to borrow money, why would I send money before I get the loan. he tried convincing me, I would have the money, plus he $500 back in my account before lunch! I know there is a sucker born every minute and people are desparate for financial help in these times, but people DO NOT DO IT! They have foreign accents, they know Americans are sometimes gullible and yes greedy and we think that being a US citizen gives us special rights, but these people are sophisticated and play on our bigger than life personalities. If it sounds to good to be true, it is!
