I have called the Albuquerque Regional to get my medical records as I almost died there and it was a long almost 2 1/2 months in hospital. They told me there were 1100 pages and it would cost me 600.00 to get them. I was under impression those medical records were mine as that is what my attorney said when I called to ask. Now I need to know if I have to pay for them or pay for their copying or what. I can copy the records for a lot less that their charging me. Please let me know how to go about handling this. Thank you I appreciate your help.

UT hosptial here in Knoxville is charging my friend $280 for his 600 pages. My dad got his for free from the same hospital but he only had 350 pages.

These sorts of charges are very common in the hospital and other health care centers. Most of them happen to be clear billing mistakes.

In such situations, it is better to get the bills audited by the hospital staff. An independent auditor for this purpose will also be helpful. He will find out all the overcharges but his fees may be quite expensive. Either he will charge hourly or he will take 35% - 40% of the number of over billed charges found by him.
