What should i do?
Received a late notice from my student loans holder.
I'm unemployed.
I know I need to contact the debt holder but...
1.What do I say?
2.What should I expect.
3.What should I have at hand (besides the bill) when I call.
Etc.
Thanks guys.

What type of loan?? Federal or private???
If federal, get your loan into unemployment deferment! You are eligible for up to 3 yrs!
If private, ask for a forebearance...

Don't really know.
It was originally a Citibank loan.
SallieMae picked it up sometime last year.
The payments aren't bad I just don't have job.
Just want to get into the right position here.
My credit is in a bad state mainly because of this.
Low score.
I've managed to pay off all of my small debt.
This isn't going any where.

Call your lender.
Did you not read your prom note and loan agreement when you signed them? Right above your signature is a statement in BOLD 'THIS IS A PROMISSORY NOTE. BY SIGNING THIS NOTE I HAD READ AND UNDERSTAND THE TERMS OF THIS NOTE:

The terms of your agreement whether private or federal are on that note. It is important that you know and understand this information and your responsibilities to avoid default.
