have been trying to settle with Citibank my self for 30% they will only do 45%. we owe approx 54,000. What got me started isI received a call from them about three weeks ago and it was the person on the phone who talked to me about settlement. He asked if I could come up with 30% I said it would be very hard but would be worth it for me to barrow from family to get out of this nightmare. He said I would would receive the settlment in a week. Three weeks went by and I received another call from Citibank and they said there wasn't a settlement or notes in the system for a settlement and the only amount they would settle for is 45%. I told them I do not have that I was streching to come up with the 30%. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I did and we are. I would rather settle and pay somthing than file bk. I am just wondering what people have settled with them for. I have been told by a debt settlment company that they were settling for somtimes 20% in December. I would rather do it myself and save the fee I would pay the debt settlment company.

The person I spoke to from Citibank said that I should use a debt settlement company too.

Search the forums and locate telephone numbers all of the call centers.

Then the adventure begins; start calling and determine where the supervisors are. Always ask for the direct phone number "just in case you get lost on the transfer".

Next you should shop for the best deal.
I think that you can obtain 30% with the above approach.

It worked for me.

Good luck.

If you are looking for a debt settlement company, debtsettlementbranch.info can match you up to the right company, just fill out a form; it's free of charge. If you'd rather search on your own, here are some guidelines--The settlement company's program must have a fast completion time. 12-36 months.-The program must be able to protect and improve the consumer's credit standing.-Must be a member of the Better Business Bureau, BBB, for at least 5 years.-Must also have a good standing with the Chamber of Commerce-A Member of TASC - The Association Of Settlement Companies and the IAPDA or theInternational Association of Professional Debt Arbitrators

I had a similar situation with Citibank. I received settlement offers from them but I would never accept them because they were way to high and I felt that I shouldn not be settling when most of it was fees and interest. My original 30,000 grew to 50,000 and I finally settled for 12.6 more than a year later with a collection agency. If Citibank is offering 30% and then changing it - this is what happened to me before I stopped making the small payments to stop the calls. Keep talking to them and make sure you tell them you are on the brink of bankruptcy - write a letter which is what I did and don't hide. The more you call you just might get someone but be sure to sound that you are serious, honest, willling to do everything to pay them before bankruptcy!!!!!!!!!!!
