Ok I recently got a settlement offer over the phone. Instead of about 4500 they offered me about 2500 to settle. The only problem I had was they wouldnt send it to me in writing. Is this a bit odd or suspicious? Arent they supposed to send a l;etter making hte offer? Oral agreements mean nothing unless its also in wiritng.

I called their 18009556600 number. The rep wouldnt give me the offer in writ8ing so I declined...please see the other post about Capital One representative now contacting family members! I am the sole owner of both accounts.

Ok I've been sent a TON of letters but never in HAND WRITTING! :O
Its been my experience that when they send out an offer letter that usually means the SOL is out or very close to being out. You should check the last activity date.

Sounds like since all the credit card changes even good companies like Capital One have stooped down to the levels of the bad ones if they would treat a customer like that. Guess we all have to keep in mind these days "if it sounds to good to be true.....beware"

CA is Collection Agency. Have they moved your account from Capital One to a collection agent?

They will give the settlement offer to you in writing. They faxed me one when I settled the one account with them. So insist on it. If you are only 4 months behind then you are still within the statue of limitations (SOL) and most likely they have assigned it to one of their collection agencies but still own the debt. Meaning that when you pay them the check will be made out to Capital One.

Why not call Capital one Farud prevention or something and see if they can verify the settlement in writing? I did a settlement with Capital One through a collection agency. They faxed me a letter and the next day when I called Capital One to make sure that the collection agency was legit they had already updated my account to reflect the payment. Don't give them your account info - offer to send a certified check or something by fedex after you get a confirmation letter. Automatic drafts are impossible to stop payment on so don't give your account information.
