Iam being sued for a medical bill that is 8 years old

What state do you live in? Also, what company is trying to collect off you? Sometimes collection companies make the "mistake" of "accidentally" sending you out a bill they can't collect on.

I live in michigan and it a hospital

No one will give me a answer on the statue of limations on this.

That SOL is 6 years. But usually after a hospital tries to collect on you for more than a year, they turn it over to an outside collection company.

I'm a little confused by your post though. You said the hospital is the one collection, but you also stated you got served. So are you being sued? If that's the case, then what is the name of the law office.

Kathleen Main is the atterney and the hospital is hurley and hurley wont give me any info on the bill.

Withholding information about a collection bill that is yours is agains the law. Its concerning your medical records, and you have rights to those. Have you gone to the hospital to speak with someone in patient accouns? What year did you visit the hospital? See if you can obtain a copy of the medical records they are trying to collect on, specifically look for a copy of the signed patient concent form. This is the key that makes you responsible for the debt. If there is no copy, then you have no legal obligation to pay. And if this is past the SOL, then a judge cannot force you to pay the debt.

the bill is from 1998.my daughter is 25 that who the bill is for.

Have you made any payments towards this bill. It's actually from the date of the last activity on the account, not the last time the patient was seen.

i have recieved a notice from a collection agency who is trying to get payment form a bill in 01. i thought that after 6 yrs they can not use or try to get payment for the debit is that correct

What state do you live in? Unless you live in MS or WI, an unpaid debt is collectible until.....you die. If the Statute of Limitations for you r state has expired then they have no legal grounds to sue but the debt doesn't just go away.

The they will be awarded a default judgement against you and may begin post judgement remedies available in your state.
