OK-So I have a question about PDL's. Everyone here says to close your account, or put an ACH block on your account. What happens after that? When they start trying to collect, I can't have them calling my work or my references... I will lose my job! I've done a lot of research on this site, but nobody seems to say what will happen next... I have about 6 PDL's and I live in Minnesota. Please HELP!

What will happen is they will call you and call you. They intentionally call you at work to try to embarrass you into paying.

You can send them a letter saying not to call you at work, but they rarely honor it.

One thing that can help minimize the embarrassment caused by the calls is warning people ahead of time. You can tell them that you've discovered someone has stolen your identity and took out some payday loans. That way they will think these calls are not really for you, and can be told to hang up if they call. It's a lie, but these payday loan places will lie to your coworkers and tell them that you are about to be arrested, they will ask your coworkers to tell them where you sit in the building so they can tell the police, they will say you are a thief, they will say you used work computers to steal the money and that the police will be confiscating the computers, they will lie lie lie to try to scare or embarrass you into paying.

They may also have put a wage assignment clause into their contract with you. That allows them to "garnish" your paycheck without having to go through the courts, because you agreed to it in the contract. This is 100% voluntary. All you have to do is send them a letter stating "I hereby revoke any and all wage assignments I may have signed with Company X." Keep a copy just in case they try to send it through anyways.

hi hookem,

Welcome to the forums :-) You have come to the right place for help. Are these storefront or internet lenders that you are dealing with? This will help us better help you if we have more information. There is no need to tell people anything at this point. I would recommend e-mailing, faxing, sending letters to your lenders stating not to contact you at work, your boss, references, etc. I got calls at work but I was able to make them stop by doing this. You have to be persisent with them though.
