Vikas (and all other Mods) -

I have noticed that when many guests or new members enter the chat room, they have specific questions, and want someone to talk to right away. However, most of the time, there's no one in the chat room when they post their questions, so I fear they go away without answers, possibly not returning.

Is it possible to have a constant banner or some sort of stationary announcement that stays at the top of the chat room at all times, stating that if no one is in the chat to answer questions, they should come to the board itself and post their question in the appropriate forum, then check back for answers?

How does that sound? I'm just hoping we can catch those who are leaving without answers when they're only posting them in the chat room, and give them another option for getting answers that they may not realize is here!

Hummm I have a few thoughts on this one...
at the bottom of the forums page, it lists who is on line, could this also maybe list how many people are in chat at any given time? Railroadforums.com does this (though their chat is lame).

Is there maybe way if some one goes into the chat room and no one is there they could send a broadcast invitation to the chat room?

talkaboutsleep.com has topic specific chat rooms which are open all the time, but they have "scheduled" time when mods are in those particular rooms. Would any mods be willing to sit in the chat room on a regular schedule? At least until it gains in popularity? I could probably start off with a couple hours a week, probably weekends, but those may vary from week to week.

ON a personal note, the way the chat constantly reloads and freezes can be a bit irritating. Is there a smoother operating program available?

A chat I participate in uses a free program from addon chat (www.addonchat.com) its java based and works nicely without the herky jerkies. No registration is required. Their free version does not have any ads, and does have some limitations (like each post has a maximum number of characters, not sure how many haven't hit it in a while. Used to be 200 but they have since raised it). We never seem to have any real problems which those restrictions impeedin on the conversations.

Just a few thoughts I have had.
