Putting summaries on stickies
Date: Tue, 07/15/2008 - 07:35
Some of the stickies are there because that info needs to be at the top of the forum pages. Putting a long summary above the important info only makes it harder for the person to find the info.
I feel like it's not right for Admin to go in and change our posts to suit themselves. They are changing our titles we chose when we made those posts, and insulting us by adding summaries to what we already said, as if we did not say it well enough. While I understand Admin has control, I don't think it's right or fair for them to just change a post someone made because they want it to be different.
The summaries just make the info harder to find, and I don't think they help in most of the cases. Most of the stickies (at least in the pdl forum) were stickies from the start, and made to be stickies, so they were formatted with the most important info at the top. Now the reader will have to scroll down and go through a page of a summary before they get to the info.
I just feel a bit insulted that my titles were changed, and that someone felt that my info wasn't enough and that they needed to add their own 2 cents. The summaries don't say anything new, they are just adding more for a person to read. There is no point to most of them!

Now, when you open one of these stickies, all you see is the summary. The posts made don't even show, you have to scroll down for that information.
I think if Admin was going to do this, they should've taken the first post, which was a summary of what needed to be done, and make that into the "summary". Not reword what we already said and make our stuff look secondary.

Hi Goudah,
Thanks for sharing your concern and thoughts by starting a relevant topic.
Believe me, I have no intentions to hurt your and any other posters???????? feelings of our community.
It is very true that we have given Summary to certain selected Forum topics (on the basis of our visitor's most searched topics). We have started this keeping an objective in our mind for "helping our visitors" purely on an experimental basis.
Let me explain this: -
1. We have observed that whenever a person searches for a typical topic in our forum then he/she hardly goes through all the posts of a forum thread. Most visitors don't get the proper answer to his/her query and thus post the same query again and again on the same topic or just leave our site from that page itself.
This is the first and foremost reason for us to give summary of the entire forum thread which will help the visitor to get all possible answer related to a topic in one go.
2. We also keep a track on the topics on which the visitors are searching in our forums. We changed Title of certain forum threads in order to match the relevance of the Title with the most searched topic. I.e. We want our visitors to find the most relevant Title along with information in relation to his/her searched topic.
3. When we are making summary of a forum thread we never mean to show its different posts as secondary. Actually information in these posts is the basic structure of the summary.
I personally consider these valuable posts to be the building blocks of our Debtcc community. By writing summary of some forum threads we are only trying to give summarized information to them (keeping in mind the actual requirements of our visitors).
4. Now coming to your suggestion of making the first post as the summary. From our observation we have seen that the first post of most threads possess only question and not sufficient information. That's why it is not always possible for us to make the first post as the summary.
Again, we generally don????????t modify posts until and unless it violates our Forum rules and regulations. We definitely give links to certain anchor text in order to help the visitor/viewer to navigate throughout our site for relevant information.
But regarding some of the threads you have mentioned, we'll definitely review contents of the first post. In such a case we may have to modify its content and title in accordance with our visitors' needs. For this we may have to seek permission from the Original Poster for modifying his/her post.
I hope I have succeeded in explaining myself and my endeavor to help our viewers in getting answer to their queries. It????????ll help our viewers to get proper guidance from our community so that they can live a debt free life. I hope you'll agree with me and help us to achieve this end.
Together We Can, Together We Will.

I understand where you are coming from, but I still don't think that all of the titles you changed were necessary.
For instance - A title "Importand info to know before closing your bank account" was changed to something like "Why you shouldn't get too many payday loans" Totally different, and not at all what the thread was about. Someone just looking at that would think that the thread was about taking out too many payday loans instead of information they need to talk to their bank about to protect their account.
I just feel that if Admin didn't think our titles and ideas were good enough, they should have just made another thread and done what they wanted with that instead of changing our words around.

Hi Goudah,
Thanks for showing us our mistake in case of the particular Sticky you have mentioned.
In this case, the summary of a different thread got uploaded in the wrong thread. We have understood our mistake in this case and changed it into the previous format. Please check it: -
