Right now, at this moment, here is a list of the registered users. now, you and I all know that someone is repeatedly joining this forum under stupid made up names. I have no clue what they think they are going to accomplish but I do know one thing, they must be bored out of their minds! Why the heck are we being bombarded by fictitious member names, joining one after the other???
Registered Users: Annew85, bfcwptsw, cwragryy, cwrvzhob, gnfsducy, gqhotueh, hswamezt, ihtbxwzw, ipbdqhyk, mrzvzbbx, PDLOwner, qlljndzp, tailatious53, xasjhnvm, yhhwrckm

What the hell? Now look at the registered members.

Registered Users: cwragryy, dhtsgwxa, eptunria, erusblna, evidovac, fstxkzyy, gqhotueh, ihtbxwzw, ipbdqhyk, mavgkdmw, nellfmwm, nsjyqkrv, ohepizpd, PDLOwner, qkvjmyrt, ruvvcari, vjidzhtb, vpuoxeeb, wchrudkl, xasjhnvm, zlzawdlm

Do you see a pattern here?

Since the sign-up page (especially the community signup) is just a simple HTML form with POST method, I'm sure it would be easy to write a script/bot that just submits random strings of characters and creates new accounts.

It might be beneficial to have some form of validation to curb these activities. 1) You could have the signup page display an image with letters, and make the user re-type those letters in order to sign up (you see this on many sites, because bots can't read those images). 2) before new user is created, have the server send an email to their email, and the user would have to retrieve their email and click an "activate" link before the account would be created.
