Again I am bringing up the requirements for winning question of the month. People show up here just to answer the question of the month...I have actually found the question posted on a monthly contest board. How many times as the reward gone unclaimed? In my opinion it should be rewarded to a contributing member, not someone who pops in here just to answer a question and never comes back again. There should be a membership requirement....maybe that they have a minimum membership time of 30-60 days and must have made maybe 5-10 posts. So many of these rewards are going to people who will never return.

Like I said the last time, as per our site policy we want to keep this QOM contest open to all and we don't want to restrict QOM participation to only selected few..

There are 435000 members in the forum. How is making a few posts and contributing restricting??? All I am saying is that people coming here to answer the question and not being a participant in the community is nuts. Hell, how many months do you have to pass the reward onto the 2nd or 3rd place BECAUSE these individuals are not registered properly or members of the community???

I think we really need to get past this registration issue...we've been talking about this for what, two years or more?

Jason, I understand that you are looking to keep the forum open to all. There's a problem with that. You seem to think that requiring registration will somehow drop traffic here. How do all of the other forums out there survive if requiring registration dropped traffic?

This forum is one of a small number that do not require registration. Most forums on the internet do. It is free. It takes just a couple minutes to sign up. And people all over the internet already do sign up for forums to talk about everything from Tupperware to cars to music to comic books to debts.....the list goes on and on!!

I propose a simple solution--or, rather, what should be a simple solution. I propose that we divide the forum into two sections. Unregistered posters can access a limited section where they can ask questions about their kind of issue. But the specific members section would include most of the forum, including the lounge. We basically already have a members only section but because this forum isnt set up properly, the purpose of that section is totally lost. If we set it up this way, we could have a sort of introductory section where unregistered people could come and ask questions--and still get help from us....but the integrity of the other sections would be easier to maintain. I would be fine with moderating a visitor's section that unregistered posters could post in--but allowing unregistered posters to reap 100% of the benefits of signing up will GUARANTEE you that people won't sign up! Why should they? They can get the milk for free!

Limit unregstered posters to a specific section with just a couple different subsections in it, and we could use that as a way to direct people to sign up and show them to the proper advice they need. One forum I belong to does this---and it increases the value of becoming a member. It also works---that forum is a car-related forum and people on that forum pay $15 per year to be members! It isnt even free and they STILL sign up because there should be a benefit to being a member as opposed to an unregistered visitor. I dont think members should be charged to come here, but hopefully you see my point. We all want this place to succeed, and the way it is right now, that will not happen. We NEED to change things that do not work, Jason.

As for "not wanting to limit QOM to a few people", Jason, come on already! you are giving away free money!! The least they could do is take one minute and sign up on a free forum! With all due respect to you, you need to stop being so stubborn and holding onto ideas that do not work. Remember when you first started the QOM? Remember the purpose behind it? Here's a hint--when you click on the QOM, here is what you yourself have posted in the rules there:

QOM - 2 Easy steps to submit your answer

--Sign-in in the community. If you're not a registered member, then sign-up with the community right now.
--Visit the QOM page and submit a relevant answer to the question.

You made it a requirement already! Why should we have to fight for you to uphold the standard that you put in place from the start? Better yet, look at the current question....you have 5 answers...all from people who have signed up. Of those five, THREE are brand new members that signed up within the last day! They followed the rules that YOU made a part of the QOM....it's a pretty lousy thing for them that you allow someone who's not registered to compete with them for the prize, when they did what this forum asked them to do by signing up to participate.

As far QOM section is concerned, it is open for all 435000+ DebtCC members (new joinees included). Our strategy is to promote DebtCC through QOM contest in various marketing and social media sites.

Here are the list of previous QOM Contest Winners..

As the list suggests, everyone got a fair chance. Out of 55 winners only in very few cases we had to pass on the winning amount. We made registration compulsory in this (QOM) section so that we can communicate with the person who has given the next best answer (in case the winner fails to respond)

Bingnut got july because Patricia Roberts did not respond.
Deleon got June because David did not respond. Seems like the rest of the posts have been deleted. That is 2 just this summer...and I know there have been several more.

While we are on the topic of QOM, who writes these questions?? Some tech over in india?

What are the most common financial lies which teenagers often say to their parents?

This is not not North American english or even european english. This was written by someone is not an english speaker, probably someone translating. Maybe I am being picky but if you are going to ask a question, it should be written in proper english with correct grammar. It should be " What are the most common financial lies THAT teenagers TELL their parents." A previous question..."Do you really think that personal budgeting is the best way to save dollars" We do not say "dollars" here in the US...we say MONEY!!!!

Previously, we had no option to change the winner's name from DB. It's fixed now.

Regarding spam posting in QOM ..
We already made REGISTRATION COMPULSORY in QOM section for restricting spams.. but still we get them inspite of blocking ips' or banning ids'. They just keep on posting from different ids and different ips.
