I am so sorry to hear about your situation. Nothing comes first that your health. If you have your health conditions safe, other things can be given the priority. Don't stress yourself and take the advice of your doctor. Keep your sugar in control.

What type of debts are you having? Do you mind discussing about them? A counselor can also advice you some better options.

Welcome to the forums :D Like Anthony said the free credit counseling offered here may be able to give you some answers. You have to take care of your health, nothing else will matter if you don't. As far as being collection proof because of disability,I'm not sure about that.My son is on disability and recently,I had someone trying to collect a medical bill from 2000 and 2001. Because I have claimed him on income tax and he didn't file,They say I am responsible, and he is 32 years old. So check that out with the debt counselor or someone else because I'm not sure I'm not getting the run around on that.Keep us posted-good luck and good health...Karen

I have advanced COPD and had to quit working too. My pride made me try and hang onto my job longer than I should have. I went into debt with short paychecks and ever increasing bills. This was bout 9 years ago (I'm still here!) and I was tore up about not being able to pay every thing, I had very good credit before this. I was told then that I should take care of my immediate needs to live. And that I was "judgment proof" as no one (bill collectors, etc.) could take my Social Security Disability money. It hasn't stopped a few from badgering me, (Citi cards) but with the help I have received here I have found relief from them too. I still feel a twang of quilt when I see one account I was unable to pay. But they understood that if I was able to pay them I would have.
So hang in, you've come to the right place.
