Taking the first step in this direction, pull copies of your credit from all the three bureaus. Compare each of the entries thoroughly and see which one of them is not tallying with each other. If you feel confused about the ones shown in the file, dispute the item with the bureau reporting it. They will check in their system and with the companies reporting it. The bureau will update you with their latest findings.
You need to start contacting all your creditors and make payment arrangements on the debt accounts. The process may not be a smooth one in the beginning but you need to get started and get some better deals from the companies. Your payment history will have a direct impact on your credit. If you have bad payment records, credit scores will remain at the minimums. And if you do it in timely manner, scores will always go upwards. Taking a professional help from debt counselor can also be an option.
