My mom lost her job, and I had to start paying for myself. I opened four credit cards, and now I can seem to move my balance. I continue to pay over the minimum payment, but nothing seems to help. I am a server, adn it has been slow latly, and I can't get a second job because I have to go to school.

sbuchanan04--Hi and welcome! To me, your best bet would be to join a debt consolidation group to help you with a monthly payment that you can afford WHILE lowering your interest rate. you will get your cards paid off much faster and will start to see a difference in as little as three months. Its usually after three months that the creditors see that you're serious about the program and plan to stick to it. In doing this, you will start to see the numbers move. I think its your best bet! staying in the spot that you're in now, you will never get out from under these cards paying the minimum payment and it sounds like you're not in a situation where you can pay anymore than that. You sound young. I have a 20 year old daughter that still lives at home, that has four charge cards. Because of everything I have been through, I am teaching her to use them responsibly. She will make a purchase on the card and pay it right back off. she knows to never charge more than she can and is willing to pay right back off. Those interest rates can KILL you! You can get a handle on this and get out from under it, I believe a debt consolidation program is your best bet. anyone else want to jump in here??? hope this has helped and good luck to you!! you can do this. shirley

Sarah, look over on the right hand side of your screen, Under the topic "our services", you will see 'free consultation'--click there...a page will come up that askes you a few questions, fill it out and they will give you a call! Theres several different debt consolidation groups out there, that are free and will lower your monthly payment and over time, lower your interest rate.
