I got a call at work this morning and the caller ID displayed United Legal. The caller asked to speak to me, and since I did not recognize the company name that came up, I put her through to my voice mail. The caller left a very aggressive loud message giving her name, but not the company, and said to call her IMMEDIATELY on 866-679-4046.

I blocked my number and called back, and the girl who answered the phone did not even identify the company I was calling. I looked up United Legal on old threads here and it sounds like they are basta#*s to deal with, so I am afraid to call back. I have no idea why they are calling, as the woman who left the voice mail did not give a reason as to why I needed to call her back. I'm assuming it is for a payday loan, though I have no idea which one. Should I call her back and find out what this is about, or keep trying to dodge the calls? I have turned over all of my payday loans to Hess Kennedy, so they wouldn't be getting anything directly from me anyway.

What is the best approach here?

Tiffany, will you be comfortable calling United Legal by payphone? You want to make sure if the debt they are collecting for (if legitimate) is already included with HK. United Legal is required validate the debt for which they are doing collections. You must get something in your mail and find the purpose of their collection call. If they say that something has already been sent to you earlier, verify the address to make sure that they have proper records in the file.

Well Tif...one of two things:
You can call back and ask for debt validation while giving them minimal information about yourself
Or you can go ahead and send a C&D letter while requesting debt validation via US postal service CRR!
Whatever you do, don't dodge the calls, that'll only make it worse.
