It's Time To Ask For Help...

I have spent the last 13 years running up credit card after credit card, then paying them off...only to keep doing the process over and over again. Now, I'm in way over my head. And don't know where to turn.
I have about $76,000 in unsecured credit card debt. I have used all available balances to make payments on other cards, and now have hit a wall. I have never been late on a payment (this I am proud of), however I am not proud of my bad decisions & ignorance. I am struggling to afford just the most basic items at this time...food, some kind of savings for safety reasons etc.. I have a good job, but certainly do not make enough to cover debt of this size.
I have looked into debt settlement Companies. Are these an option? Should I stay away?
Bankruptcy is not an option in my life. I will not do that!
I have heard that credit counseling companies are a waste of time, and do little good to eliminate the issue at hand? I do not have a problem managing money, or making payments on time...my problem was buying anything I wanted with plastic! I have stopped using credit cards just about a year ago.
Help!
Thanks for any advise... Marc

Welcome to the family, Marc!
debt settlement CAN be an option...But check into consolidation also. Both have positives and negatives.
Ask ANY questions you may have along the way. We look forward to your contributions! :)

Very true, debt consolidation and debt settlement are some help
Very true, debt consolidation and debt settlement are some help when solving your debt related issues. Both of these programs have their own approach of functioning and ultimately shrinking off the debt.
With a total debt of $76,000, I personally feel to consider a debt settlement program. Consolidation is no doubt helpful but it will take long time to complete the program. Suddenly, if some incidental situations occur at the later period, like lower income and other necessary expenses, you might hurt the plan thereby turning into defaults. Approximately, this total debt under the consolidation plan will take long time to complete.
Talk to an expert for understanding the debt settlement program very clearly. This program has its own approach and the results can also sound good. More importantly, you will take less time to finish off the program after the total has been largely reduced.

Thanks Jessi & IncredibleHelp!
IncredibleHelp...When you suggest that I talk to an expert about debt settlement...Who would this expert be? This is part of my frustration, as I don't know who experts on this subject are? Who can I go to for solid, trustworthy information? I have read many Debt Settlement websites...but I am only receiving information from "them" and not outside sources.
Aughhhh!!!! Thanks....
