I moved out, to another state, when I was 18. At that point, I had great credit, already having two small loans that I had paid off in full.

I discovered my new bank would let me spend $300 past my account balance, so I quickly exercised this feature. When the bill came, I couldn't pay all of it, so I paid none of it - a pattern that continues still.

Then I took out a $7000 loan so I could buy a horse trailer (which I didn't buy, by the way. It did go towards horse-related items, however). I fell behind in payments - again with the cant-pay-it-all, so-dont-pay-it attitude.

From there it went to bouncing checks and being overdrawn. Half-hearted attempts to repair my financial mess have crashed and burned. I'm sick of feeling like a dumb young adult and not being able to afford things that I should be able to. So, here I am, trying to get myself some help...

Hi Miranda.
Welcome to the forums. Please don't beat yourself up, we all make mistakes, no matter how young or old we are. The important thing is that you learn from them..And since you're here, I'd say that you have.

I see that you've just registered. A professional counselor will be contacting you within a few days. They will go over debt consolidation or settlement options and point out some reputable companies.

Things will work out for you, you're on the right track just looking for help. Good luck, please let us know how things are going for you.

Welcome Miranda :D Fins is right,Don't beat yourself up,it's done and over, now where do you go from here? And for you, that's up. You are taking responsibility for your choices and want to do things differently, that's a positve for you,not to repeat the same mistakes. Talk to your credit counselor, they will help and guide you to the best decision. If you have any questions, ask, and browse the other topics to help you on your journey to becoming debt free...Karen

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I do accept my mistake and I am dealing with it, so I do feel better. I didn't get in this mess in a day, and I'm not going to get out in a day, either.

Fin, where are you from in Michigan? That's where I grew up.

Miranda, I'm in Holland, about 20 minutes from Grand Rapids. Where did you grow up?

I was actually born in East Detroit, moved to South Florida when I was less than a year old, so I don't remember that. I lived in Fl for 21 years, then moved here..I still don't know the area as well as I should!
