Hi George! Welcome to the forum. A debt counselor should be contacting you shortly to discuss your situation and explain the options available to you. In most cases, you can put your unsecured debt into a debt consolidation program and make one affordable payment a month. The counselor can get some details and help you figure out which option will help get you back on track.

brownil3, this is what I can advise you, my friend. Now that you are trying to put everything in order, don't use your credit for the time being. It will be better to stay on cash as much as possible. If you decide a debt management program, you will get positive results only when you are disciplined with your finance. If you use the credit at one end and continue the debt consolidation program at the other side, you might lose balance and the debts won't minimize. The program will do well if you have a decent income and can roll on with other necessary monthly expenses. A second job will also sound helpful for the time being.
