I am a 19 year old single mother and i would really like some help trying to get my credit to be better...when I apply for anything...they tell me
that I dont have any credit...How or what should i do to get some credit...I wouldnt say that I have bad credt..I have a few unpaid bills...but nothing major that I know of...I would just like some tips as to how to go about doing all this...and another question..can hospital bills be held against your credit???
thank you so much...any reply would be greatly appreciated...cynthia walck..

The unpaid bills are shown in your credit report in a negative way. If you pay them, your credit scores will rise. At this stage, they may hurt your credit potential. The unpaid medical bills can also do similar damages.

Few tips on improving credit scores are mentioned in the link below. Hope you will get some direction.

My wife got her S/S card and green card one year ago she only had one paid negative (verizon). Her scores were 580 and 619 and 619. I got the negative deleted from TU BAM no she has no score with TU. Is that crazy??? Anyway she just opened two secured credit cards. That should help.

My credit has gone from 10 bad TL's to three. Basically I declared war on the CRA's I spend every free moment i have working on my CR.

Just my 2cents

cinderpop -

at this stage in your life, you have a lot of room and time to improve things! Take advantage of your youth and take time to correct your credit now - it will make your life so much easier down the road.

Some tips:

-pay off those medical bills - even if it's only $10 or $20 each to each bill, eventually you'll have them paid off, and it will show that you are honestly trying to pay them.

-DO NOT fall for the payday loan or cash advance trap. You will regret it for a long time. Read other posts on this site about payday lenders and you'll see what I mean here.

-Start a savings account for yourself, and one for your child. Even if you only put $10 a week in each one, by the time they are old enough to consider college, moving out, or marriage, they'll have a little money to work with towards expenses there.

-Pay your other bills on time - including your utilities. Many companies, such as phone and cable or satellite dish companies, are now reporting their experience with their customers to the credit bureaus.

-Credit cards are kind of a necessary evil in today's world. Get ONE. Get one card with a low limit on it, charge one small purchase per month, and pay it off before the due date. This will help you build credit. When the company offers you a credit limit increase, accept it, but only up to the point that you can pay the entire balance off every month. Never accept a higher limit than you can reasonably afford to pay off every month.

Hope this helps - keep us posted on your progress!
