I don't think it's good to avoid collectors when you know they are trying to reach you. It may be for one of your past debts. Call them and know their reasons. You'll come to know what is actually happening. Don't be afraid of them. As a consumer, you have your legal rights protected.

If you don't call them, it will only get worse. The next step that they might go with is to take you to court if the debt is something big. I would suggest that you answer their calls or @ least call them back.

Welcome to the site! We're glad you came here to ask your question.
It is in your best interest to answer this call and find out why they are calling you. They will not tell you on your answering machine, most likely. Avoiding it will only make the situation worse. I realize you probably don't want to talk to them - talking to a creditor about a debt is not always pleasant, but you might be surprised at how willing many of them are to work with you, if you just communicate with them. If you don't take the calls, they will assume you do not intend to pay, and will proceed accordingly, which means this will stay on your credit report until you take care of it.
Why not just pick up the phone and call to find out what this is about?
Also, since you've registered with this site, a debt counselor will be contacting you by phone - they can offer debt consolidation and settlement options that may be helpful to you.

That is one mistake I did, I thought by running from my collocters and ignoring thier calls would just make it all go away. It only made things worse and the longer you wait to deal with them the harder it is to get them to help you out. Next thing you know you will be getting seved papers from creditors trying to get judgement against you.
