I happened by my old employer's office when the phone call came in. Mr. Parker introduced himself as a attorney handling a federal case against me and he was preparing paperwork to present at my local county courthouse on Monday Jan.29th to file charges against me for defrauding the federal government,by defaulting on a federal loan. He stated since Citifinancial is federally funded these where federal charges. I was never contacted prior to today concerning these charges,or this debt. And to be threatened by someone impersonating an attorney threatening to serve an indictment for "defrauding the federal government" at my place of business was extremely embarrassing and belittling. It should be against the law. He gave me until before 12 noon on Monday the 29th to pay the debt in full. (Today is Friday Jan. 26,2007).Or there was nothing he could do to stop it. I hustled up a loan for $2000.00, then called to see if maybe they could excuse the remainder(347.17),that is when he said he had to ask his supervisor, that's when "The light came on" as they say. He told me no, they could not accept partial payment because my case had gone to far and they were ready to present it for an indictment. I asked him not to cash the electronic check for the money and take it to court, I could not come up with the remainder. All of a sudden they could accept my offer of $2000.00 as a settlement of the debt.

What this man did was completely ILLEGAL. It amounts to extortion. He made a threat which he knew he could NOT follow through on in order to collect on a debt. That is VERY ILLEGAL. They are not going to file Federal charges against you, especially in a COUNTY courthouse. He is an idiot. Did you send him the money? You need to file a complaint against this company with this man's name mentioned in the complaint for this illegal collection activity.

I filed a complaint with the FTC before I placed this post. I did owe the debt and he acknowledged the fact that there was no communication with me prior to this in his file. I was caught off-guard and did not have time to think until later. I did not want this company harassing me and leaving embarrassing messages for me at my old employer's office or my current place of business so I paid him.

Yes, I asked for a copy of the settlement and a letter stating the account was paid in full. Thanks for your support. I will contact my local Attorney General's office and the one in Ohio. I had to post this so anyone they contact in the future will know what kind of snakes in the grass they are.

Hi There,

I'm with all you folks. These guys are crazed. I've been unemployed eight months. I started calling all my debtors to figure where I stand and figure out what to do. I have four cards in collection, my fault. The first three seemed to want to work with. My last call was to NES. The person says one thing for a buy and then another if I can pay it more quickly. Then she puts her "manager" on who starts talking then yelling and finally says if I don't pay he will start legal actionand is going to hangup, he did. A minute later I get a call from the person who I was talking to initially. Sound familiar? It was the old good cop bad cop trick. When you are in it though you aren't really thinking about that.

I have just got a call from them , they are looking for my son. I was not at home so they left a message but have of which you can`t understand. I had to listen to it about 10 times to get the name of the company. they have also called my other son looking for his brother and they told him they needed his bother to get ahold of them by 12:00 or they were taking him to court. my son told them he would not give out his brother`s number without knowing what it was about and they would not tell him so he told them not to call again and hung up. well they called him the next day. so i`m glad i looked up what the company was and found all these complaints so now i know and don`t have to put up with them. thank you.

I've got a couple of calls from NES along with them calling my Mom this morning and telling her that they were a law firm and they were getting ready to file a lawsuit on me. My Mom immediately contacted me in a panic to which I called Rebecca and informed her that I had an attorney that they needed to correspond with and she immediately hung up on me. I called back and she picked up said "good luck" and hung right up again. I called back again to which someone else picked up and asked "what do you want"? I replied that I wanted all calls to cease and all communication to be handled in writing to my attorney. This person informed me that they had provided communication in writing to me and that they were going to sue me. I said go ahead and sue me, then I immediately contacted my lawyer gave them the information and asked him to deal with them. He informed me that he would take it from there and that I should ignore all future contact with them via phone and inform my Mom and friends (former addresses) to ignore them as well.
