Mezey Sucks

I signed with them to avoid this trouble. Now I am in deep and don\\\'t quite know how to get out of this mess. Not to mention the 6K I lost to Mezey.

You need to call your creditor immediately and do a payment on your account. Probably, they are taking you to the court for not getting any payment from your settlement company. Make one payment to prove your part.
Once you are through this, call Mezey and question them about what went wrong? You signed up with them expecting positive results from them? They need to show you strong reasons for not being accountable and the responsibility rest on you only.
When you hire any company for their settlement plan, the creditors can still take you to the court. Your documentations signed with the settlement the negotiation proposals sent to the creditors will be your most important defense to get the judge's decision in your favor.

wwc,
I've been with Mezey since June '06, and I too have recieved a summons. There's no way I can pay the CC company that's suing me. My debt is over $60k, so I'm filing Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. This will put a stop to my summons, and any future ones. I closed my bank account today that Mezey was drawing from. I'm not even going to contact them and let them know. I'm going to see if they try to contact me. They usually draw from my account on the 27th. I too have paid about $6k. What a waste. My lawyer said the Cease & Desist paperwork they sent me had no legal bearing. I think they are crooks. There are a couple people that are considering filing a lawsuit against them. I'm considering it, but don't really know how to approach it.

It depends on how your bank handles it I guess. I had additional reasons for closing my account. Stopping Mezey was definetly a benefit though. The last payment they withdrew was in January. They called me once and sent me one letter. Although Mezey has a new customer service, they are still crooked as a question mark in my opinion. I've thought long and hard about the situation I'm in, and although many would discourage me from doing it, I decided to file chapter 13 bankruptcy. Before I signed up with Mezey, my monthly payments were approximately $1100. After signing up they were $732. After paying them about $6k, I was sued by one of my cards and they got a judgement against me. My credit score was in the toilet anyway, so I figured I had nothing to lose. Yes I know that the bankruptcy will be with me for years to come, but in 5 years, my payment plan will be complete, and I can rebuild. My other alternative was to pay for the next 30 years. My attorney estimates my payment will be about $500.
I'm not sure that I would recommend my solution for everyone, but it works for me. Fortunately, my wife has excellent credit and all the cards that I'm eliminating are solely in my name. While I'll feel the long term pain, my family still has a chance.
Good luck to all who find themselves in the credit card hell so many of us find ourselves in.

That's the problem with crooked outfits (debt settlement companies). They pose as lawyers so you think you're protected. This is not to say that all debt settlement companies are bad, but Mezey sure is.
That's why I'm going the Ch. 13 route. It's a bad situation I find myself in, but it's the best choice for me.
Fortunately, my wife is not filing since the bad debts are only in my name. This is the most positive thing in this situation. At least my wife's credit won't be affected. We just have to take it one day at a time, and do our best.
How to file a complaint against Mezey & owner Harry Reis
To file a complaint against Mezey and Assoc. and Harry Reis, the owner, contact the Cal Atty Gen Office, and call Kenneth Abbe or Barbara Chun at 1-310-824-4343, they are with the FTC Western Region. From the NY Atty Search I see that Mezey is not even in the same office and is just a figurehead, they are absolutely NOT a law firm that they mis-represent on their website. It looks like they have many angry clients.
DO NOT beleive any of the positive "sales" posts regarding Mezey
DO NOT beleive any of the positive "sales" posts regarding Mezey, I'm sure these posts are done by him or the owner Harry Reis, he runs the show and is accountable and mainly responsible for the disaster that is Mezey and Assoc. If any you want to email Harry Reis, the owner who runs the show, I found it's hreis at yourdebtlawyer (com) and he is in the Burbank office at: 15981 Yarnell Street, Suite 209
Burbank, CA 91342. The NY Atty, search show that JW Mezey (Joseph Wade) is at 405 A Arenoso, San Clemente, CA 92672 and his ph. # is 1-949-542-7661.
MEZEY IS IN A SEPARATE OFFICE NOT EVEN REALLY INVOLVED WITH THE "LAW FIRM" THAT THEY TOTALLY MIS-REPRESENT ON THEIR SITE AND SITE ADDRESS: yourdebtlawyer.com Probably won't be long now until these crooks are shut down like many other debt settlement firms have been by the FTC

I feel like such a fool to have even called Mezey in the first place. They have about 6k of my money, and now I'm scheduled for my bankruptcy meeting with the trustee next month. Citibank sued me and got a judgement against me. With a total of over $60k in CC and unsecured loans, I could hardly make the minimum payments. I tried Mezey because their web site claimed to be lawyers. They didn't help me at all. They made things worse. I hope the bankruptcy courts go after them for the money I paid them.
Bankruptcy may not have been my first choice, but I'll take my "beatings" and move forward. It'll be over 10 years to get my life back on track, but at least in 5 years I'll have my income completely back and will put this bad experience behind me.
Move forward and don't look back. That's my new motto, along with "Pay for it with cash, or don't get it".
